Using public Wi-Fi networks dangerous for user`s personal data

A December study by ESET revealed that most Russian Internet users are actively using public Wi-Fi networks in public places. Mostly, public networks do not use data encryption. Moreover, providers of open access points can receive additional information about the user and his device, which is very valuable for marketing companies.

Also, open Wi-Fi hotspots are often used by cybercriminals. They can intercept usernames and passwords, gain access to user correspondence, and distribute viruses and malicious software. The main goal of scammers is to gain access to the user's bank accounts. While a quick search of information on the Internet through public Wi-Fi does not pose a great danger, the use of such networks for personal purposes (for making purchases or accessing private resources) can lead to a leak of personal data.
