Stopping support for Windows 7 could be a problem for Russian banks

Microsoft has completely discontinued technical support for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 on January 14, 2020. Microsoft representatives in Russia explained that this means the termination of security updates on these operating systems. Many of the Russian banks still use this OS version on their computers, which threatens with data loss and is therefore violating legislation of the Russian Federation - banks should use only certified software.

Ilya Zharsky, managing partner at Veta expert groups, is convinced that at least 20% of computers involved in the financial industry may need at least 15 billion rubles to upgrade to Windows 10. Some banks have already entered into an agreement on paid additional support for Windows 7. This temporary measure is intended for a smoother transition to the new OS.
