Russian Ministry proposes three new regimes regulating the stay of foreigners
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation prepared a draft law, proposing to introduce 3 new regimes that regulate the stay of foreigners in the country's territory:
• short-term presence - up to 90 days during a calendar year (currently, the period of temporary presence of a foreign citizen cannot exceed 90 days during each 180-day period)
• long-term presence - over 90 days during a calendar year;
• permanent residence - indefinite period.
It is also proposed to abolish temporary residence permits and simplify the process for obtaining a residence permit.
Furthermore, the draft law provides for the introduction of an electronic identity card for foreign citizens, as well as the introduction of a "controlled" presence regime to identify foreigners who are in the country in violation of the law.
